Reverse Osmosis System Design Workshop– This four hour seminar will include an in-depth educational presentation of pressure-driven crossflow reverse osmosis (RO) membrane technology. It will address the parameters that affect RO system design. Following will be a workshop on the design of commercial and industrial RO systems. Attendees will work collaboratively in small groups to solve design problems, covering applications ranging from drinking water treatment to seawater desalination to wastewater reuse. This workshop will increase the understanding of this important technology and provide skills to enable the water treatment professional to utilize this knowledge in virtually any application in water and wastewater treatment. Attendees should have a basic understanding of the fundamentals of membrane technology, and should bring along a calculator. Peter S. Cartwright, PE Peter Cartwright has a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from the University of Minnesota (1961) and is a registered Professional Engineer in several states. He entered the water industry in 1974 as director of sales and marketing for a major manufacturer of membrane elements and systems. In 1980, Peter formed his consulting engineering business, Cartwright Consulting Co. In 1997, he founded another company, Cartwright, Olsen & Associates, LLC. This company provides third-party evaluation and performance validation testing g of innovative drinking water treatment technologies in accordance with the EPA Environmental Technology Verification Program. Peter specializes in both marketing and technical consulting in high technology separation processes for water purification, wastewater treatment, and food/chemical processing applications. With expertise encompassing virtually all treatment technologies, his clients include manufacturers desiring to produce complete water treatment systems or components thereof. Typical applications range from point-of-use/point-of-entry drinking water units to ultra high purity water systems, to effluent treatment applications. He provides complete design, construction, installation, and operating services covering the entire spectrum of water purification, wastewater treatment, and environmentally conscious manufacturing. In addition, he offers market studies, comprehensive training, and educational programs in all areas of water treatment. He has authored dozens of articles, written several book chapters, presented over 125 lectures in conferences around the world and has been awarded three patents for water purification processes. He is a member of the Technical Review Committee for Water Conditioning & Purification magazine and is on the Editorial Advisory Board for Filtration News. He is also on the Conference Advisory Board for the annual BCC Membrane Technology/Separations Planning Conference and the Pennwell Industrial Water Conference. He is also on the faculty of the University of Wisconsin College of Engineering annual course, “Process Piping Systems Design and Operation”, and is a peer reviewer for the “Journal of Membrane Science”. Peter is a 2001 recipient of the Award of Merit from the Water Quality Association and is the Technical Consultant to the Canadian Water Quality Association.
