Development Engineer

 Description:
Great opportunity to join a growing company with opportunities for advancement!  In this position you will provide technical support to new product / technology development for our air filtration business unit, supporting on and off road diesel engine applications. Work as key member of multifunctional teams for rapid delivery of market leading products.

  • Translates customer requirements into specific tasks, assigns necessary priority and communicates/ coordinates with the program team.
  • Develops product concepts based on sound engineering principles and efficiently uses Donaldson’s analytical capabilities
  • Uses available design tools and resources to ensure timely completion of design steps
  • Develop test plans/methods to ensure product reliability and performance targets are properly met.
  • Coordinate product evaluation with engineering test labs and group resources
  • Communicate technical results through drawings, specifications, standards and reports as appropriate
  • Introduces new techniques, procedures and capabilities when applicable
  • Initiates corrective action as required to meet program objectives and maintains a proper balance with costs.
  • Works with sales, marketing, manufacturing, purchasing and vendors to develop new product designs and processes
  • Assures smooth transition of program from concept to production.
  • Follows through to assure timely solution of problems during design and qualification of each product.
  • Manage assigned projects to achieve timely release of new products
  • Prepares detailed and summarized task oriented schedules, milestones, and coordinates with project teams.
  • Formally and objectively reports on a regular basis the following; Program performance vs. objectives, actual cost vs. planned costs, schedule status, major milestones for balance of program, major program highlights, major program problems/issues, competitive evaluations, as pertinent.
  • Promptly brings to attention any significant deviations to plan that are beyond his/her control and recommends corrective action.
  • Assures that required documentation for programs and projects is completed in a timely manner (e.g. FMEA, NPR, PPAP)
  • Supports and utilizes new and existing policies and procedures

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Three plus years experience in a development engineering environment
  • Demonstrated project management skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with a wide variety of company personnel and others outside the company.
  • Ability to effectively manage the interaction of suppliers, technology partners and customers in the development and qualification of technology.
  • Knowledge of air filtration preferred
  • CFD and/or FEA modeling experience is a plus
