Constant rate filtration is a cake filtration carried out when the liquid feed suspension is delivered at a constant rate to the filter; this does not imply that the filtrate will necessarily be collected form the filter at a constant rate. As the cake forms so the pressure tends to increase in order to maintain the filtrate flow. A positive displacement pump is most often used to provide constant rate filtration.
